The C-extensions that I have seen all seem to suffer from the same disadvantages. The clamps, or ‘stops’, are too heavy and stiff to manipulate easily and sometimes even require two hands. They are also not precise enough for proper tuning. The extension itself is often esthetically offensive; too large and bulky. And they are often mounted by means of a screw in the scroll. And lastly, they are difficult to play because of the large distance between the string and the fingerboard.

My design addresses all of these drawbacks.

The string is placed at exactly the correct line and distance in relation to the fingerboard. The stops that I have developed are easy to use with one hand and they depress the string in the same manner as the human hand. They are easy to tune precisely, and when you open a stop there is enough room for your fingers between the stop and the string. The stops are also equipped with a roll mechanism so they won’t deteriorate, and the rubber won’t wear from the friction of dragging it across the string because they push down in it from above.

The C-extension is held in place by the tension of the E string itself. If you choose for the design where the string is threaded around the scroll then there is no alteration of the scroll whatsoever. And the look of the extension is always made to fit with the instrument for an optimum esthetic balance and leaves the scroll untouched and fully in view.
