Atelier
During the development of my bass designs I followed the example of the great masters of the past, whose instruments I’ve known, repaired and restored for many years. I have adjusted and altered these traditional instruments ever so slightly to meet the needs of the modern day virtuoso style of playing.

My Model 1 for instance, which is most often built as a five string instrument, is patterned after the basses of Thomas Kennedy. I lowered however the rather high shoulders to make it more comfortable to play.

By doing things this way I can create an ergonomic modern bass with the personality and feel of a tried and true design, while preserving the characteristic sound quality. The top and back are the greatest contributors to an instruments sound, so I test my basses first without a lacquer finish. This way I can perfect the instruments’ resonant characteristics by modifying the outside of the body. Once the final lacquer finish is applied the last careful adjustments and improvements are made.

My double basses possess the following characteristics:
  • a warm and powerful tone
  • quick action
  • even sound through all strings and registers
  • a combination of modern ergonomics and traditional design
