Preyer Contrabassen is specialized in repairs, maintenance and building new double basses. We offer a wide range of old and new instruments in various price ranges. Of course you can also turn to us for bows.


Jurgen Preyer

Jurgen Preyer (1970) grew up in Friedrichshafen by Lake Constance in the South of Germany. Following his training at the Violin Makers School in Mittenwald, he was employed for a number of years as a double bass and violin builder in Hamburg. In 1998 he moved to Groningen, the Netherlands, to study double bass at the Prince Claus Conservatoire. After obtaining his diploma, Jurgen started his own company in 2001: Preyer Contrabassen, alongside working as a professional musician at the same time. The company now employs four workers. The workshop is set up in Arnhem in 2006.

Dolf Strijkers

Fulltime craftsman

Dolf Strijkers joined Preyer Contrabassen in 2012. He trained at the School for Musical Instrument Building in Puurs, Belgium

Cedric Bessire

Fulltime craftsman

Cedric Bessire works at Preyer Contrabassen since 2021. After his apprenticeship as a cabinetmaker he presumed an education as a violinmaker at the violin making school in Brienz, Switzerland. After working internationally in different violinmaker workshops he was interested in getting more experiences with double basses and joined us at Preyer Contrabassen.

Marco Sips

Freelance craftsman

Marco Sips is a metal working specialist and has a wealth of experience in building and repairing a great variety of musical instruments. He is also experienced in making strings and preparing lacquers and dyes.

Pim Boons

Freelance craftsman

Since 2018 Pim works at Preyer Contrabassen. After getting his masters degree (classic double bass) at conservatoire he attended a 4 year education as a violin maker in Boom, Belgium. Besides double bass repairs he is specialized in cooking our varnish.
